The three steps
- Export from ForeFlight: open your flight plan, tap Send To, choose Files, and save the .fpl file. Any app that exports Garmin FPL works the same way.
- Import on the briefing form: choose the “Route file (.fpl)” tab, select the file, and review the interpreted route — every waypoint is shown for your confirmation before anything is generated.
- Generate the briefing: pick your departure time and personal minimums, and the analysis runs against your full planned path.
Why the full route matters
A briefing drawn along a straight line between airports can miss what your actual routing flies through. Airway doglegs around terrain and airspace change which advisories, terrain, and TFRs are relevant to your flight. Following the planned path — every fix and airway leg — means the weather picture matches the flight you intend to fly, with the supporting sources retained in the briefing so you can verify.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need ForeFlight to use FlightWeatherCheck?
No. You can enter your departure, destination, and intermediate airports directly on the briefing form. The route-file import is for pilots who already plan in ForeFlight or another app that exports Garmin FPL files and want the briefing to follow that exact routing.
Does importing a route change or file my flight plan?
No. The import is read-only: FlightWeatherCheck reads the waypoints and altitude from the file to build a weather briefing. It never files, modifies, or submits anything, and your plan in ForeFlight is untouched.
What file format is supported?
Standard Garmin FPL (.fpl) files, the format ForeFlight and most electronic flight bags export. After import, the interpreted route is shown for your confirmation before any briefing is generated.
